Camden: home to sprawling street markets, world-famous music venues, first-class museums and theatres, London Zoo, 681 acres of Hampstead Heath and some of the city’s busiest transport hubs. The London Borough of Camden is a hugely diverse wedge of 22 square kilometres of inner London. With bustling Covent Garden at its tip and fed by the arteries of Euston and King’s Cross, the borough fans out to Kilburn in the west, Hampstead and Highgate in the north and Kentish Town to the east. Camden has 36 designated Conservation Areas, over 5,600 listed buildings and the seventh largest economy in the UK, with an estimated 248,000 jobs. The resident population is 230,000 or 3% of the total population of London. The Council owns approximately 20,000 homes where it supplies energy through district heating and combined heat and power networks. In 2010, Camden's Sustainability team began innovating in the way that energy was priced and sold, through a fully metered, real time connected energy grid. This advanced system is operational in 2,000 homes that includes a Wifi network and Android tablet for viewing historical, predicted and real-time energy spend as well as social norms, comparisons and benchmarks. The system is powered by an analytics engine that forecasts energy based on weather predictions, historical demand and building models.
